Greenwood Roche advises Yinson Renewables in acquiring 94.6 MW Mt Cass Wind Farm

Greenwood Roche has advised Yinson Renewables in acquiring Mt Cass Wind Farm in the upper South Island. The project will deliver significant new renewable generation capacity to support New Zealand’s decarbonisation goals.

Yinson Renewables has acquired the rights to the 95 MW Mt Cass Wind Farm in the upper South Island from MainPower New Zealand Limited. Construction is expected to commence in early 2026, with the wind farm scheduled to enter commercial operations in 2028.

Once operational, Mt Cass is designed to generate more than 300 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power approximately 40,000 households with 22 turbines. The project will be Yinson Renewables’ first wind farm under construction and its first wind energy project in New Zealand, representing a major milestone in the company’s international renewable energy portfolio.

Greenwood Roche advised Yinson Renewables in the acquisition of the development rights in the project, including the due diligence, negotiation and completion of the transaction.

The team was led by our Corporate and Commercial, and Energy and Resources Partners Brigid McArthur and Kate Watt.
